We have started actions for Kenny Lee’s release.
Deacon Kenny Lee came to the United States at the age of 14 with his family. During his teenage years, he was involved with friends who were in gangs. At the age of 26, while Kenny was working, he was suddenly arrested and convicted for a murder charge that supposedly happened seven years ago when he was 19 years old. He received life without parole (LWOP) and has now served twenty years of that sentence.
2013, one year since Saturday Morning Prison Ministry began:
In 2014, by the providence of God, Saturday Morning Ministry Team began visiting with Kenny.
Through visitations with Kenny and the SM Team members and one-on-one bible studies, Kenny’s faith in God became solidified and his spiritual life matured. As we continued to visit him regularly, Kenny started to realize God’s purpose in his life.
In 2014, in his thirst to live as a disciple of Christ, he began his studies in Theology while in prison. Although Kenny, himself, was in a difficult situation, he began to seek out other inmates who needed help. Wanting to be used as a tool for God’s love, Kenny continues his pursuit to help those in need.
On Easter of 2019, Kenny was appointed a Deacon by Pastor Jae Duk Lew of Valley Korean United Methodist Church. Kenny continues to express his warm, deep gratitude to the brothers and sisters of our SM Ministry Team and Church congregation through his continuous letters.
Current change in new laws pertaining to sentence reductions for life and term sentences, have given many term sentence inmates the opportunity to be released from prison before their full term; however, it does not apply to those with LWOP sentences. LWOP inmates are not without a method for release or reduced sentence. Their hopes lie heavily on receiving a commutation from the State Governor.
For those inmates with LWOP sentences, someone needs to lend them a helping hand. Our SM Ministry Team is preparing a petition for Kenny to be commutated by our State Governor for being a model inmate.
We intend to send our petition for Kenny’s commutation/pardon, not only to the State Governor, but to the Courts, Officials in high and low positions, and to the President of the United States. For those of you who are reading this, we ask for your support in helping Kenny receive clemency and release from prison. Please click on the link below and complete the information as needed.

케니 집사님의 석방운동을 시작 했습니다.
케니 집사님은 14살에 미국으로 가족과 함께 이민을 와서 사춘기 시절 갱단 친구들과 어울려 지냈습니다. 그의 나이 19세에 일어난 살인사건으로 7년 후 사회생활을 하던 26세에 갑자기 체포되어 가석방이 없는 종신형(LWOP)을 선고받고 올해로 22년째 교도소에서 형을 살고 있습니다.
2013년에 Saturday Morning 교도소사역을 시작한 지 1년 후인 2014년에 하나님의 섭리로 SM사역팀과 케니집사님과의 만남이 이루어지게 되었습니다.
케니 집사님은 SM교도소 팀원의 만남과 일대일 성경공부를 통해서 그의 신앙이 더욱 더 견고해 지고 그의 삶이 더욱 성숙해졌습니다. 그리고 케니집사님은 미래의 삶의 목적을 찾아가게 되었습니다.
2014년 그는 그리스도의 제자의 삶을 살고자 교도소 안에서 신학을 공부하기 시작했습니다. 더불어 케니 집사님은 자신도 어려운 상황에 있지만 교도소 안에서 도움이 필요한 재소자들을 스스로 찾아 돕기 시작했고, 하나님의 사랑의 도구로 쓰임 받고자 지금까지 노력하고 있습니다.
2019년 부활절에 그는 밸리 연합감리교회 류재덕목사로 부터 집사로 임명 받았습니다. 그는 자신을 믿음의 형제로 환영해준 SM교도소 사역팀원들과 밸리교우님들의 따뜻한 사랑의 후원에 깊은 감사의 마음을 늘 편지로 전해 오고 있습니다.
현재 무기수와 장기수들을 위한 감형의 법이 새롭게 재정되면서 많은 장기수들에게 석방될수있는 기회가 주어지고 있습니다. 하지만 LWOP형을 선고받은 재소자들에게는 혜택이 거의 없습니다. 하지만 방법이 전혀 없는 것은 아닙니다. 석방을 받을수 있는 방법은 LWOP수감자들에게 주지사의 감형과 사면이 유일한 희망 입니다.
이를 위해서는 LWOP를 선고받은 이들을 위해 누군가가 도움을 주어야 한다는 것입니다. SM 교도소 사역팀은 케니집사님이 주지사의 사면을 받을수 있도록 청원을 준비하고 있습니다. 주지사 뿐만 아니라 법원, 상,하원의원 그리고 대통령에게까지 LWOP모범수 석방을 위한 청원서를 보내려고 합니다. 이 글을 읽은 모든 분들도 케니의 석방과 사면을 위해 함께 동참해 주시기를 부탁드립니다. 동참하시기 원하시면 아래의 버튼을 누르시고 청원서에서 요구하는 정보를 입력하시면 됩니다.
